Curious about mixing, songwriting, releasing, promoting and all aspects of music production? The Music Production Program gives young people from communities underrepresented in music a chance to learn new skills, gain confidence and find their music community.

In collaboration with Ableton as part of the VicHealth Future Reset initiative, The Push is bringing the Music Production Program to four areas across Victoria.

The 10 week program is an opportunity for young people underrepresented in music to find their community, learn new skills and express themselves musically in a safe and supportive environment.

Find out more and apply now at The Push's website.

Who’s it for?

The Music Production Program has been designed to give young people aged 14-18 years from communities underrepresented in the music industry, support and skills to build their confidence and networks. Young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, the LGBTIQA+ community, low-income households, living with a disability and First Nations young people are encouraged to apply.

Where and when is the program?

The Music Production Program will be taking place in 2024 across four different locations.

  • Term 1 – The Push Studio – Collingwood Yards – 23 January 2024 – 9 April 2024

  • Term 2 – Melbourne’s Northern Suburbs – 23 April 2024 – 2 July 2024

  • Term 3 – Melbourne’s South Eastern Suburbs – 9 July 2024 – 17 September 2024

  • Term 4 – Regional Victoria – 24 September 2024 – 2 December 2024

The program takes place over 10 weeks, including an end of program celebration event. Successful participants will be expected to attend the in-person workshops on Tuesdays from 4:30pm to 7pm.

Each term is a single instance of the full program. Participants are not expected to attend more than one term.

What should I expect?

  • A supportive environment to express yourself through music

  • A safe space to build new, practical and transferable skills

  • Connect with like-minded peers and build your networks in music

  • Join a long list of performers, producers, artists, and music industry practitioners as part of The Push community

How do I apply?

Applications are now open for Term 1 for young people from Melbourne’s inner suburbs. Applications and details for the other locations will open later in the year.

Head to The Push's website to apply.

Applications for Term 1 close 5pm AEDT, Friday 1 December 2023.
